Participants must attend both sessions

Day One: First Observer Plus & Improvised Explosive Devices 

  • First Observer Plus: Elementary ideas of security awareness including "see something, say something" and what that means, with examples of suspicious items and suspicious behavior indicators; a highlight on terrorist chain of events preceding an attack and actionable mitigation efforts you can take; focused vehicle inspections procedures.
  • Improvised Explosive Device (IED): IED construction techniques and explosion video, components of an IED utilizing the "PIES" acronym.

Day Two: Human Trafficking & Active Shooter Response

  • Human Trafficking: Description of tactics, behavior and environment of human traffickers and their victims with ways to observe, assess and report suspected instances.
  • Active Shooter Response: Tactics to employ during an active shooter attack based on Homeland Security's Run, Hide, Fight. Tactics to employ during an armed attack on a vehicle.

Who should attend: Training is for all environments and employees including administrative, staff, and transportation.

Presented by: Joseph Larkin, MEP, Lead Transportation Security Inspector - Surface, US Department of Homeland Security/TSA Security Operations

Cost: No charge. PennTRAIN has worked with PennDOT to waive registration fees for PennTRAIN courses through July 31, 2020.

Internet Access Required. This course will be presented via Zoom, and attendees must have an internet connection in order to participate. Webcam use is encouraged but not required. Links to join each session will be provided in advance via email.
