This certification program fully prepares community and public transportation professionals to review their operations for safety and security in the critical components and core elements of the Federal Transit Administration’s (FTA) Bus Safety and Security Program.
Workshop participants will learn how to conduct interviews and employ techniques useful in identifying and addressing all the benchmarks found in the FTA program’s nine critical areas. Participants will also review transit safety and security case studies.
The program is designed to help managers build the transportation organization, enhance the professionalism of its internal team, safely serve its customers and fulfill its responsibilities in assisting in community emergency preparedness.
Those seeking certification must currently be employed in a position where he or she is responsible for ongoing work in at least seven of the nine critical areas of the Certified Safety and Security Officer program*; have a certain amount of professional occupational experience; submit a short application for approval (to be completed on Day one of the training); complete the CSSO training workshop and pass all portions of the CSSO certification examination OR complete a review of the applicant’s home system.
